Lissa, this article is amazing and so needed. I'm feeling like we need a lot of truth telling to find our way out the mess we are currently in. But I'm like you - I'm actually really hopeful that the more we tell the truth, the more we can find our way home. I've been doing some pretty deep analysis into the patterns that are lying under a lot of what we are both seeing. I'll be sharing them as I can complete them on substack. I couldn't find a way to message you directly but I'd love to chat with you about it. Thank you again for leading the way. I know being first is hard. I know that you are taking the hit for the team and making way for others to speak. The dam is breaking and you are holding a big hammer. I can't express enough how much I appreciate you and this article. Sharing now.

I am 73 years old and I have been on a consciously chosen spiritual path, since I was 15. Some points I would like to share with you.

First of all, when people practice publicly and desire to be a spiritual leader, there is always ego involved. I don’t care whether it’s Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or any new age amalgamation. If you want to be in the limelight and making lots of money, there is ego involved. Conversely, If you choose to follow someone like that, by definition, you choose to submit your ego to theirs.

The best way to connect with source is through the individual expression that is you. That is the strongest link. You don’t need a guru. You just need to meditate, feed your body properly, get adequate exercise, and prioritize peace in your life. In other words, live a truly mindful life, and you will attract other like-minded/mindful people. And your little group does not require a leader.

All of these people that you have mentioned, regardless of their personal shortcomings and vices, have nonetheless given us truths. We can learn these truths, but not be attached to the people who delivered them because those people were just vessels from source. It is our job to make sure our own house is clean. We are witnessing their karma, which thankfully, is not ours.

Will there be disappointment? Sure. I loved all of Deepak’s books. I even spent $500 to attend a weekend session with him and it changed my life. And I have to admit I was deeply disappointed to find out he could be a pedophile. I have not read the Epstein files, although I advocate their full and truthful release. Discovering this about him, did not make the truths that he shared untrue.

And sometimes, even among the most humble, spiritual seekers, like Tibetan monks having sexual relationships with Tibetan nuns, sometimes against the will of the nuns, this kind of thing happens. And it is hypocritical. We have to call it out for what it is.

However, just because some of the spiritual leaders that you had great respect for, duck out to their hotel rooms to have sex with each other, DOES NOT PUT THEM IN THE SAME CATEGORY WITH PEDOPHILES. As long as they are two willing adults and the sex is consensual, why would you care? I’m sure you’ve heard of kundalini yoga and paths to higher consciousness using human sexuality. I am not justifying what some of these people you’ve hobnobbed with are doing because I wasn’t there and I don’t fully understand the context in which some of these things happened.

Bottom line, none of us is perfect. And if someone is trying to sell their particular path to higher consciousness, you can believe they are not a saint! So why on earth would you ever put your faith into that person? No, what you need to do is try their path and see if it works for you. If it doesn’t, then keep looking. If it almost does, then make your personal modifications and build your own bridge back to your own divinity.

I appreciate your courage to speak out about the hypocrisy you have seen in this business. It is no different than Jim and Tammy Faye Baker or any of the other bullshit evangelicals. But the ancient messages they deliver, whether from Jesus, Buddha, the pantheon of native American or east Indian gods and goddesses, etc., etc. etc. carries truth. The trick is that the words carry only the tip of the iceberg of meaning. Until you have personally experienced the initiations with the unembodied ones who have hung around our planet, all of this enlightenment is just something for us to aspire to, and for these leaders to capitalize off of us. Holding the carrot in front of us donkeys. Just stop all of the drama and sit with yourself for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. And every minute and every day be in gratitude and mindfulness. Simplify your life and realize you are awakened.

I have nothing more to offer.
